During the turbulence of recent global events, I sensed that people’s hearts, much like mirrors reflecting the world, had grown clouded and unsettled. This inspired me to focus on the concept of meikyō shisui (明鏡止水)—“a clear mirror and still water”—to explore the state of the human spirit.

The term meikyō symbolizes a mirror free of distortion, while shisui represents water in perfect stillness. Together, they teach us the importance of maintaining inner clarity and calm, even in turmoil. By turning inward rather than being swayed by external turbulence, we may rediscover serenity and summon the strength to forge a hopeful path forward.
Through this calligraphy piece, I aimed to transcend words and evoke meikyō shisui’s essence visually. My hope is that, even briefly, it offers viewers a moment of peace—a gentle reminder to pause, breathe, and reconnect with stillness. May it serve as a quiet catalyst to soften societal anxieties and rekindle faith in the resilience of the human heart.
